Exhibitions and the World at Large

This symposium, organised by Afterall and TrAIN, examined the contemporary art exhibition in a global context by considering three case studies from 1989, a pivotal year for both art and politics: ‘Magiciens de la Terre’ at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, ‘The Other Story’ at the Hayward Gallery, London, and the third Bienal de La Habana.The event opened with a keynote speech by Sarat Maharaj and other invited speakers included Thomas Boutoux, Sonya Boyce, Jean Fisher, Cuauhtémoc Medina and Gerardo Mosquera.
