On 10 December 2015 curator and writer Rasha Salti will be in conversation with curator Omar Kholeif to discuss ‘The International Art Exhibition for Palestine’, which took place in Beirut in 1978, and the archival and documentary exhibition presenting this research ‘Past Disquiet’, curated by Salti and Kristine Khouri at Museu d’art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA), 2015.
‘The International Art Exhibition for Palestine’ was organised by the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and consisted of almost 200 works, donated by 200 artists from nearly 30 countries. Salti and Khouri’s research, conducted mainly through oral testimony from first-hand witnesses, has focussed on the immediate social, political and art historical context of the 1978 exhibition, as well as how it intersects with other international anti-colonial and anti-imperialist solidarity movements, organisations and exhibitions.
