Exhibition Histories Talks: Lucy Lippard
We are pleased to announce the second in our series of talks analysing and contextualising exhibitions through the personal accounts of the curators responsible, co-organised with the Whitechapel Gallery in London. On Thursday 11 April 2013 Lucy Lippard will be in conversation with Afterall’s Lucy Steeds.
Each talk takes the form of a focused discussion between a member of the Afterall or Whitechapel Gallery team and the curator of an exhibition or series of exhibitions. Lucy Lippard and Lucy Steeds will focus on art outside of museums by looking at the exhibitions ‘557,087’ and ‘955,000’ (from Lippard’s seminal ‘numbers shows’, 1969–74), and ‘Weather Report: Art and Climate Change’ (2007).
This event is also the UK launch of the most recent addition to our Exhibition Histories series, From Conceptualism to Feminism: Lucy Lippard’s Numbers Shows 1969–74. The book features extensive archival material, including over 130 images, and is complemented by a new essay by Cornelia Butler and interviews with Lippard, Seth Siegelaub and exhibiting artists as well as critical responses written at the time by Peter Plagens and Griselda Pollock.
