Exhibition Histories Talks: David Toop – video online

David Toop joined David Morris to discuss ‘Sonic Boom: The Art of Sound’ (2000), an exhibition that took place at the Hayward Gallery, London.

On Thursday 24 November 2016, composer, musician, author and curator David Toop joined writer and editor David Morris for the twelfth in our series of talks analysing and contextualising exhibitions through the personal accounts of the curators responsible for them.

For this event, Toop and Morris discussed the 2000 exhibition ‘Sonic Boom: The Art of Sound’, curated by Toop and held at the Hayward Gallery, London. Drawing together practitioners across improvised music, performance, sound design and the visual arts, the exhibition’s presentation of ‘sound combined with visual art’ has often been identified as the first major UK exhibition of sound art.

This event is a collaboration with the Whitechapel Gallery, London. It is part of the Exhibition Histories research and publication project, developed by Afterall and published in association with the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College.
