Maxa Zoller examines the terracotta sculptures of Egyptian artists Sayeda Massak, Samira Hosny, Yehya Bu Seri’ and Bodour Girgis as an entry point to a critical investigation of the historiography of Egyptian modern art. For Zoller, these works cut across modernist divides of realism and medium essentialism, and articulate an ‘aesthetic of thirdness’.
